At the Top of Your Tree? 3 Things You Can Try

30 October 2025 by Louise

Today, I'd like to share a quiet guide for when your resources are maxed out, because there comes a moment—often quietly—when the usual tools stop working. The breath cues feel hollow. The affirmations don’t land. Even rest feels like effort. You’ve tried everything. And still, something aches. This isn’t failure. It’s a threshold. When your resources are maxed out, the nervous system isn’t asking for more input. It’s asking for less. Less stimulation. Less striving. Less fixing. What it needs is permission—to pause, to not know, to not try. Here are three gentle invitations for that moment: #1. Let the body lead Instead of reaching for a technique, notice where your body wants to be. Curled up? Stretched out? Under a blanket? Against a wall? Let it choose. Let it shift. No need … [Read more...] about At the Top of Your Tree? 3 Things You Can Try

Evening Wind-Downs That Actually Work: Winter Edition

30 October 2025 by Louise

A gentle guide to rhythm, repetition, and rest As the evenings draw in and the light fades earlier, the nervous system begins to ask for something quieter. Not silence, necessarily—but rhythm. Familiar steps. Gentle cues that say: it’s okay to stop now. Winter doesn’t demand productivity. It invites hunkering down. And your wind-down rituals don’t need to be elaborate or perfect—they just need to be offered. Why Wind-Downs Matter More in Winter Rest doesn’t begin when your head hits the pillow. It begins with repetition. With the soft signals that help your body shift from alert to ease. In colder months, when the world outside feels sharper and darker, these cues become even more important. Your nervous system responds to light, sound, scent, and texture. When you repeat the … [Read more...] about Evening Wind-Downs That Actually Work: Winter Edition

Always thinking the worst?

4 February 2024 by Louise

Do you often imagine the worst possible outcome of a situation? Do you worry excessively about things that are unlikely to happen? Do you feel anxious and stressed about the future? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be experiencing a kind of cognitive distortion known as catastrophising. What is catastrophising? Catastrophising is a type of negative thinking that involves exaggerating the probability and severity of negative events. For example, if you make a mistake at work, you may think that you will lose your job, ruin your reputation, and never find another job. Or if your partner is late for a date, you may think that they have been in an accident, cheated on you, or left you for someone else. What is the impact of catastrophising? Catastrophising can have a … [Read more...] about Always thinking the worst?

What happens in a consultation? Your consultation is a relaxed, confidential space where we’ll explore your needs, set clear goals, and discuss how hypnotherapy or guided wellness sessions might support you. Occasionally, hypnotherapy may not be the right fit at that moment. If that’s the case, I’ll explain why and offer a helpful next step—whether that’s future support through Hypnotic Universe or a recommendation to another trusted service. How much does a session cost? Pricing varies depending on the type of session or programme—whether it’s one-to-one hypnotherapy, a guided relaxation class, a confidence-building workshop, or something else. Just get in touch and I’ll be happy to provide details tailored to what you’re looking for. How long is a session or class? It … [Read more...] about FAQs

How I got my weight and diabetes under control

25 October 2023 by Louise

If you've met me you'll have noticed that I'm overweight. I really hate the 'O' word (obese), so I'll stick to using 'fat' if that's ok. So, I'm fat, but what you may not know is that 2 years ago I was 30kg heavier. However, I've gone through a number of lifestyle changes, which I used my hypnotherapy skills to achieve the following goals: I wanted to reduce my weight and have my diabetes under good control, so that I could get my chronic pain under control. So, I completed an 8 week weight management programme, and managed to lose 30kg since starting the course. I'm still losing weight too, just more slowly...and more sustainably...than I've ever done before. My A1c is down to just 51, from 95 and I'm now stopping some medication as my weight continues to reduce. It feels amazing … [Read more...] about How I got my weight and diabetes under control

Hypnosis in the workplace

14 October 2023 by Louise

Hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, is a therapeutic technique that can address various issues and facilitate positive outcomes. What many people don’t realise is that hypnotherapy can also be applied in the workplace. Briefly, here are a few ways in which it can help your workforce. Boosts employee happiness Imagine a workplace where everyone is happy, productive and stress-free. A workplace where conflicts are resolved peacefully and worries are left behind. A workplace where employees feel valued and appreciated for their contributions. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. With stress reduction coaching and hypnosis, employers can help their staff achieve a state of calmness and positivity that boosts their performance and satisfaction. By listening to their needs … [Read more...] about Hypnosis in the workplace

Hypnosis myths and a free audio download

9 October 2023 by Louise

It’s no secret that there are many misconceptions regarding hypnosis. Between stage shows where the hypnotist has people strutting around like chickens or forgetting their own name, to believing they’re the King and able to speak a Martian language. None of it shows hypnotherapy in a positive light. So today I’d like to help reduce some of the misconceptions, starting with these 3 commonly spouted myths. 1. You are not asleep when you’re in hypnosis. You’re actually right at the junction where you’re asleep and awake. FYI you’re in this same state just as you wake up and just before you fall asleep. 2. You go into hypnosis many, many times in your day. For example, when you’re reading a really good book, watching a great TV show, and when you’re driving a familiar route. 3. You can’t … [Read more...] about Hypnosis myths and a free audio download

Case study: overthinking and anxiety

6 October 2023 by Louise

image shows 3 people talking and looking happy. Text reads case study Saturday - freedom from overthinking

You are about to read a mini case study that shows how I use hypnotherapy to help people achieve their goals. If you have any questions about this case study, feel free to leave a comment. Meet John* John is a 35 year old software engineer who lives in the north of England with his wife Lisa and their 3 children; F (6), M (4) and M (3). John has some traits and behaviours which he was now feeling thoroughly miserable about: He has always been a perfectionist and a worrier. He spends hours analysing every detail of his work, his relationships, and his life. He constantly questions his decisions and doubts himself. He also imagines worst-case scenarios and worries about things that might go wrong. This makes him feel anxious, stressed, and unhappy, especially since his … [Read more...] about Case study: overthinking and anxiety
