Introduction
This article aims to have you consider the question ‘do I have time to study a hypnotherapy course’? We introduce you to our handy time-gap analysis tool which you can download free of charge. Download here >>> Hypnotic Universe Time Gap Analysis.
Why the tool was created
I know it seems like a ‘no-brainer’ to say that you must have enough time to support studying (or be able to make that time) but the truth is that some students do vastly under-estimate how much time is required. They have admitted this in their own exit questionnaires.
We all learn at different rates and all courses have different requirements, therefore there isn’t a hard and fast rule here. However, it’s a good idea to do a time inventory to determine how much free time you actually have. It’s better you know this now, rather that get in a pickle later.
How much time do you have available?
We have a resource Hypnotic Universe Time Gap Analysis, to help you determine whether you have enough time to fit studying into your life.
Essential commitments
Consider your existing firm commitments and how much time you spend doing these each week. These are commitments which you cannot just drop. Examples include:
- Time for sleep.
- Travel time to and from work.
- Working hours (if you anticipate a reduction in hours to cover your course length, get your employer to confirm your eligibility
- Pet care, such as walking the dog.
- Childcare, or other caring roles.
- Family obligations which can’t simply be dropped.
- Domestic duties, such as cleaning, car care and home. maintenance.
- Travel.
- Rest days and public holidays etc.
- Essential anything!
Non-essential commitments
Next, consider your soft commitments and how much time you spend doing these each week. These are commitments which you may be able to drop, or re-assign. Examples of these include:
- Pet care. If you live in a multi-person household, you may be able to re-assign some pet care tasks.
- Childcare, such as looking after children that aren’t yours (you’d need to consider finances and whether existing arrangements can be changed, obviously).
- Hobbies that you’d like to continue during your studies.
- Family obligations which may require consideration; which ones are important to you? If it’s important to them and not you, and you’re not willing to drop it, then it’s an obligation and must be considered above. So, your weekly tea with grandma may need changing to fortnightly.
- Domestic duties which can’t be re-assigned to somebody else.
- Travel.
- Rest days and public holidays – this refers to your ideal number of days of (you know? If all the stars align correctly).
- Chores.
- Non-essential anything.
Using the resource provided, complete the calculation to determine whethere you have enough time to fit studying into your life.
Our top tips
- Establish course requirements before you apply (the resource also instructs you to do this). For example, roughly how many hours of homework are expected to be provided each week?
- If you already struggle to fit everything into your calendar, make some changes before even considering additional study.
- When you do get onto a course, contact your tutor(s) early if you’re struggling with certain aspects. The longer you leave some issues, the harder it is to overcome them. Tutors want you to succeed, so will usually do what they can to help.
