Most people think of relaxation as something you turn to when stress has already built up. But the real power of Mind Spa lies in prevention — supporting your nervous system long before it reaches overwhelm. Stress prevention isn’t about avoiding challenges. It’s about strengthening your internal capacity so you can move through life with more steadiness, clarity and resilience. Mind Spa sessions are designed to help you build that foundation in a gentle, sustainable way. Why Stress Prevention Matters When stress accumulates without regular release, the nervous system becomes stuck in a heightened state. Muscles stay tense, thoughts become faster and the body struggles to return to balance. Over time, this can lead to exhaustion, irritability and burnout. Stress prevention interrupts … [Read more...] about The Mind Spa Approach to Stress Prevention

Skeptical about hypnotherapy?
Unfortunately, some people are skeptical of hypnotherapy (I blame the stage hypnotists) and for those people I say this to you... I understand your skepticism about hypnotherapy. It's important to distinguish between clinical hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis. Clinical hypnotherapy is a legitimate therapeutic technique used to help individuals overcome various challenges, and it's supported by a growing body of scientific research. As a clinical hypnotherapist with over a decade of experience, registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), and with a background in nursing, I can assure you that the techniques I use are safe ethical, and effective (obviously I can't comment on safety of other hypnosis practitioners). My final comment on this is that clinical hypnotherapy (what … [Read more...] about Skeptical about hypnotherapy?
Always thinking the worst?
Do you often imagine the worst possible outcome of a situation? Do you worry excessively about things that are unlikely to happen? Do you feel anxious and stressed about the future? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be experiencing a kind of cognitive distortion known as catastrophising. What is catastrophising? Catastrophising is a type of negative thinking that involves exaggerating the probability and severity of negative events. For example, if you make a mistake at work, you may think that you will lose your job, ruin your reputation, and never find another job. Or if your partner is late for a date, you may think that they have been in an accident, cheated on you, or left you for someone else. What is the impact of catastrophising? Catastrophising can have a … [Read more...] about Always thinking the worst?
Hypnosis myths and a free audio download
It’s no secret that there are many misconceptions regarding hypnosis. Between stage shows where the hypnotist has people strutting around like chickens or forgetting their own name, to believing they’re the King and able to speak a Martian language. None of it shows hypnotherapy in a positive light. So today I’d like to help reduce some of the misconceptions, starting with these 3 commonly spouted myths. 1. You are not asleep when you’re in hypnosis. You’re actually right at the junction where you’re asleep and awake. FYI you’re in this same state just as you wake up and just before you fall asleep. 2. You go into hypnosis many, many times in your day. For example, when you’re reading a really good book, watching a great TV show, and when you’re driving a familiar route. 3. You can’t … [Read more...] about Hypnosis myths and a free audio download

You have time to mix more enjoyable or relaxing tasks in between each of your obligations. You have more time to work something out, if you're struggling to find a solution. You don't become overwhelmed on a single task, leaving no energy for subsequent … [Read more...] about Self-care as a hypnotherapist

What trauma may look like
Today we're looking at 8 ways in which trauma may present itself. I first came across people dealing with trauma back in the early 90's whilst working at a psychiatric hospital in England. Of course back then, trauma wasn't really something which was understood by the average m'man on the street'. However, fast forward 30+ years later and I don't really have to define it for many of us to grasp what it means. If we haven't endured at least one traumatic experience in our lives, I willing to bet that you know somebody who has. I feel I should start by saying that only a small percentage of people who experience trauma will develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). So that said, what exactly is trauma? Or more to the point PTSD? Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is … [Read more...] about What trauma may look like
