Self-esteem is esentially the opinion that we have of ourselves and. if you’re human, you’re more likely than not, to experience self-esteem issues at some point in your life…after a break up…a job loss…a serious accident or illness, these are all common causes of a ‘wobble’ in self-esteem.
Luckily, there are some simple changes that you can make now, to help you mend your self-esteem and get on with the life that you always dreamed of. In this blog post, we briefly show you how you can turn things around.
Step 1: Stop with the self-criticism
There’s a reason this is step number one 🙂
In our opinion, self-criticism is the leading cause of problems with self-esteem, and it’s also surprisingly common! We see hundreds of clients each year and we’re in agreement that, with the exception of clients who attend for things like past life regression, professional development, finding lost objects etc, the majority of our clients are suffering from problems which originate in poor self-esteem.
Step 2: Stop comparing yourself (negatively)
We all have different strengths and weaknesses to each other and that’s ok; it’s what makes us unique. But when we compare ourselves to others, it sets us up for por self-esteem. Why? Because we are all unique and therefore, not comparable. I’m good at art and you might not be able to draw a stick man? Does that make you inferior? No! You might have a talent for playing a musical instrument, something that I’d dearly love to be able to do but I have ZERO sense of rhythm, but that doesn’t make me inferior to you.
Social media is a pervasive beast and it can be easy to compare yourself against others, but I can guarantee that your mood and self-esteem will improve when you focus on your differences in a more positive way. Compare by all means, but frame it positively!
Step 3: Get a gratitude habit
When we focus on the positive in our lives, we can see that we have so much to be grateful for. It lifts our mood and it improves our self-esteem. So, what are you grateful for?
