About Kelly
Kelly is an older lady who had Type 2 Diabetes and had recently begun insulin treatment for this, resulting in a 28 pound (approx 12.5 kg) weight gain, in a very short period of time. Feeling quite dispondent, she decided to “give hypnotherapy a try”.
Baseline Measurements
Kelly’s baseline (starting) measurements were recorded and the plan was to omit week 2 measurement, because size/weight reduction can be slow to start for people who are post-menopausal – and also in diabetics on insulin treatment. We have found that delaying repeat measurements until the beginning of week 3 can increase motivation in this client group.
Why not measure at the beginning of week 2?
The reason that we didn’t re-measure at beginning of week 2 was because we felt that her weight reduction would be slow to start (due to her age, medications and insulin therapy and we didn’t want to ‘put her off’ or have her lose hope, if she didn’t have a reduction in measurements right away.
Measurement Method
Timing
Measurements are usually recorded as follows:
- During session 1 of The Slimming Guru Core Programme.
- Durng sessions 2, 3 and 4 of the programme.
Determining Total Reduction
Measurements are evaluated at each session and a cumulative total is recorded in the clients’ notes.
On week 4 (end of Core Programme) the final Cumulative total is recorded.
Variations to measurement schedule
Occasionally, week 2 measurements are not taken, however, this decision is based on individual need.
Measurements were taken from 4 sites that were relevant for her shape and size. In her case, the sites measured were:
- Chest (at fullest part of breast).
- Waist (at narrowest point, above the hips).
- Hips (at fullest part).
- ‘Midriff’ (this is a useful measurement in ‘apple-shaped’ people, and is the fullest part of the abdomen).
Results
Measurements were summed up into a single weight reduction figure, as shown below. For example, a client reducing by 5cm on their chest, 2cm on their waist, 6cm on her midriff and 6cm on their hips, would have a total weight reduction of 19cm recorded at the end of their last Core session with us.
Kelly’s measurements
- Beginning of week 3: 12cm total reduction
- Beginning of week 4: 23cm total reduction
Some clients wish to be weighed and we do allow this is some circumstances. Weight reduction at end of week 4 was 10 1/2lb or 5.22kg
Problems along the way
On a weekly basis, Kelly was questioned regarding any difficulties she was having with the programme; with cravings, or not knowing how to handle a particular situation, for example. However, Kelly consistently denied having any difficulties.
What went well
Before starting The Slimming Guru’s Core Programme, Kelly had been struggling severely with very strong cravings for sweet foods, such as chocolate, which they found extremely difficult (if not impossible) to resist. They were also finding weight loss stubbornly difficult, which was very unmotivating.
Conclusion
Kelly was very committed and their case illustrates perfectly, the normal progression through the programme, when somebody has a reasonable level of committment. At the end of the programme, Kelly lost:
Chest = 4 cm
Waist = 6 cm
Hips = 7 cm
Midriff = 6 cm
Total = 22 cm
The programme length was 4 weeks and Kelly successfully reduced her size at all measurement locations. MENTION WEIGHT
Client satisfaction
At the end of the programme, Kelly was delighted and amazed with her progress and lack of cravings for all of the sweet foods that she previously craved. Throughout the entire programme, Kelly listened to her natural body signals to eat when she’s hungry and stop when she’s no longer hungry. She said that felt motivated to eat regularly, eat healthier foods, and had managed to cut out chocolate too!
