Can children receive hypnotherapy?
Generally, so long as a child wants to make changes and can consent to hypnotherapy, we are willing to conduct an initial assessment.
Does Hypnotic Universe work with children?
Presently, the status of Hypnotic Universe therapists working with children is:
Louise – does.
Andrew – does not.
Amanda – considering training.
If you are considering hypnotherapy for your child, you might like to know how our service differs for children in our care (see below).
How does a child’s hypnotherapy session differ to an adult’s session?
Childrens’ sessions are usually:
- Much shorter than adults’ sessions.
- This reflects their more limited attention span and fact that children enter into hypnosis more readily.
- Less expensive than adults’ sessions, to reflect their shorter length.
- Delivered in a different style. They typically involve story-telling and lots of imagery…and fun!
Initial Consultations: Do I need an initial consultation?
Initial consultations are required by all clients who wish to have hypnotherapy with us.
At your initial consultation, you can expect to discuss your concerns, health history (if relevant), and goals with your hypnotherapist. Your hypnotherapist may also perform a physical examination or order some tests to help determine the best course of action for your care. It’s a good opportunity to ask any questions you may have and learn what steps to take next.
Initial Consultations: what happens at my initial consultation?
Your initial consultation usually follows the format shown below.
- We will introduce ourselves.
- You will be asked about the nature of your illness/issue.
- We will find out more about your goals.
- We’ll explain more about hypnotherapy and how it works.
- You will be given an opportunity to ask some questions.
- We will give you an opinion on whether we think hypnotherapy will help, and roughly how many sessions you’ll need.
Initial Consultations: can I have an initial consultation in person?
At this time, we offer initial consultations via our telemedicine service).
Therapy Sessions: What happens at my hypnotherapy sessions?
Each client’s individual circumstances usually dictate an individual approach but broadly speaking, your session will look like this:
- Discussion regarding how you’re getting on, what’s improved and what still needs further work.
- Induce hypnosis – most clients find this relaxing and pleasurable, but it doesn’t need to be, in order for it to work.
- Carry out some work under hypnosis. This often looks like a one-way conversation, but you’ll often be asked to visualise certain scenes and provide feedback as we go along.
- Find out more about any challenges that you may have coming up in the next week (or other time period).
- Discuss a plan for dealing with these challenges.
- Ask any questions which you may have.
Therapy Sessions: I’m housebound, can I have a home visit?
We can sometimes offer home visits for clients who hold a blue-badge and are located within 10 miles of WF14 9ED. We can sometimes offer visits further afield, but this is on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to additional charges. If you can have an online session, we will encourage you to do so.
Therapy Sessions: I’m making progress quicker than expected and would like to cease my treatment ahead of plan.
Once you have reached a point where you are happy with your progress and would like to proceed on your own (the ultimate goal, after all!), just discuss this with your hypnotherapist. We ask that you don’t simply fail to attend your appointment as this stops us offering your appointment to another client and can reduce long term effectiveness of your own programme.
