The level of trust and understanding between the client and the hypnotherapist is vital for success with hypnotherapy. Trust and understanding create a safe and comfortable environment for the client to explore their issues and accept the suggestions and coping skills offered by the hypnotherapist. Trust and understanding also enable the client to be more open and honest with the hypnotherapist, which can improve the quality and accuracy of the assessment and treatment. In my experience, trust and understanding can be enhanced by the hypnotherapist’s competence, professionalism, ethical conduct, empathy, respect, genuineness, communication, feedback, collaboration, rapport, attunement, and flexibility.
