At Hypnotic Universe, we advocate re-investing a certain proportion of your earnings back into your business. However, we know that this is not always possible, especially in the early days. With that in mind, here is a list of free promotion methods.
1. Facebook
- On your own Facebook Page.
- Facebook Groups – with permission of group owner/admin.
- Facebook Live – Not everybody enjoys doing Facebook Live broadcasts, so you’d likely stand out from the crowd.
- Facebook Stories – adding Stories to your personal Facebook profile is another good way to stand out.
- Similarly, you could add some Stories to your Facebook. Not everybody realises that you can post Stories to yŕour Facebook business page. Consequently, they can be somewhat under-utilised.
- Facebook Messenger Stories – As with posting Stories to your Facebook business page, you might like to know that you can also post Stories to your Facebook Messenger.
- Facebook Events – Many people forget they can create Facebook events. This is great news for you as the ‘market’ isn’t yet saturated in this respect.
2. Pinterest
- On your Pinterest Boards – Put your hand up if you just pin other people’s content to your Pinterest boards. Many people don’t realise that you can pin content from your own website, blog or social media page.
- On Pinterest Group Boards – anybody can create a pin board which may be accessed by those who are invited. Find out more about how Pinterest boards work.
- Pinterest ‘Communities’ – The communities don’t quite work in the same way they did when they first introduced. However, they do remain, and their concept is comparable. Nowadays, you just create a board, choose to make it public, and invite people to join in. Or leave it public and have Pinterest decide who sees your board. Though bear in mind that might not be who you want/need to see your content.
3. Instagram
- Instagram Stories – Introduced around 8 years ago, these allow you to “share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile”. Stories are temporary (visible for only 24 hours) and tend to be used to share little snippets of your day. Continue using regular Instagram posts for occasions where you want your content to stick around. Creative people often enjoy viewing and creating Instagram Stories as you can add text, filters and stickers to your images. If you’re aiming to drive traffic to your website using Instagram, we recommend posting Stories as “50% of Instagram users visit a website after seeing it in Stories“.
- Instagram Live – As the name suggests, these are live videos. Initially, this service was available only to phone users, but streaming services are now available which offer access to those using PC’s too. Find out more about how to access Instagram Live on your PC.
- In your Instagram Posts -You can post carousel, video and images to your feed, with carousel posts offering the best visibility across all account sizes. When choosing whether to post a live, story or post to your feed, it’s worth knowing that short-form videos and posts have the highest engagement rates.
4. Twitter
- Twitter – There is (in our opinion) bit of an art in getting engagement on Twitter, with some post types performing better than others. We have found that the following post types perform best on Twitter: i) Links ii) Images iii) Quotes iv) Re-tweets v) Questions and insightful comments of your own. Find out more about Twitter basics.
- Twitter Chats – This is a form of live posting, which generally follows a particular theme. Users meet at a pre-arranged time and then the fun begins! Feedback from other therapists is that Twitter is the most difficult social media platform to wrap your head around, with Twitter Chat being a more difficult concept to understand. However, other feedback suggests that therapists who are particularly busy appreciate the fact that Twitter posts are brief and creation of them isn’t so time-consuming. Find out more about Twitter Chats.
5. You Tube
- YouTube comments – Whilst it is technically possible to promote your business in You Tube comments, there is etiquette involved with this. The main ones being that you should get permission of the channel owner/operator before promoting your business in their comments. However, leaving relevant comments on related channels does encourage like-minded people to explore you and your own content. Clearly, replying to viewers comments on your own channel is recommended and (providing you’re polite) often provides a positive image of your business. Being an active commenter on your own channel helps viewers to feel valued and encourages them to stick around. If you’re respectful, polite, helpful and insightful, and you might find that you develop some rave-reviews and active followers.
- YouTube on the Community Tab – For the same reasons as above, being active on your community tab is often viewed favourably by your viewers.
- YouTube Live – You Tube Live can feel quite intimidating if you’re new to You Tube, but this type of content does lend itself well to Q&A (question and answer) type of content. When it comes to therapy, we’ve found that clients often have many questions, so you may find it beneficial to provide a platform for questions from those who are most interested in your therapy. Doing this on a live post means that the potential client receives their response quickly and helps ensure that momentum keeps moving forward towards them booking your services.
All of the methods introduced here can be expanded upon if you’d like more information and background. We still have about 15 or 20 further methods to introduce and we think it would be good to still introduce these in a brief format. However, we’d love to expand on each of the ideas further and tell you more about what we’ve learnt over the years. Leave us some comment-love and let us know your thoughts.
