May is such a beautiful time of year…the weather is not too hot, not too cold…the trees are back in full bloom and everything just feels…lighter. So, in honour of celebrating this beautiful time of year, we’ll be sharing a few top tips that should help you lead a more enriched life.
Tip #1: Change somebody else’s life
This looks different for different people, but here’s some ideas to get you started.
- Carry out a random act of kindness (R.A.O.K) such as:
- Pay for somebody else’s shopping in the queue in front of you.
- Pay for the coffee order of the person in front of you.
- Give a care package to a homeless person.
- Donate time, money and/or goods to a charity that means a lot to you. Such as:
- Find a befriending service and offer the gift of friendship.
Tip #2. Change your own life
- Have some fun outdoors. For example:
- Geocaching – if you haven’t heard of it before, is where you find hidden ‘treasures’ (the geocache), which could be anything from trinkets to logbooks, and items for trading. You’ll find the treasure via maps or directions posted online or in local magazines. Your ‘mission’ is to go on an adventure to locate the boxes. It’s good old family friendly fun. Visit geocaching.com to get started.
- Learn a language – not only is it fun to learn a new language, but you can use it to connect with new friends, find foreign travel a little easier and maybe even use it to earn additional income as a translator.
- Pick up a new hobby – such as gardening, painting or sewing.
- Join a local sports group – and benefit from age-defying properties and cardiovascular protective properties too.
- Learn how to play a musical instrument – and benefit from things such as a lower rate of mental illness and dementia as well.
- Set yourself a new challenge – you could do something like Couch-5K for example.
Tip #3. Change an animal’s life
- Many dog shelters have programmes where you can take the animals for a walk and clean enclosures etc. It’s very fulfilling and lots of fun.
- You could even join a site similar to Borrow My Doggy, where you can walk the dogs of people who are too sick to walk their animal. I’ve done this for people recovering from surgery and injuries and have made some life-long friendships via the service.
Well, I hope these suggestions have got your creative juices flowing. Why not leave your own tips and ideas in the comments below?
